CAI Panel Discusses Child Welfare Law Enforcement at the National Association of Counsel for Children's 35th National Child Welfare, Juvenile, and Family Law Conference

On August 14, 2012, at NACC's National Conference in Chicago, CAI staff made a presentation on the roles that the executive and judicial branches play in enforcing child welfare laws and ensuring state compliance with those laws. CAI's Bob Fellmeth, Christina Riehl and Amy Harfeld were joined by Kara Hatfield, Assistant Professor of Law at the Phoenix School of Law, in discussing how these branches go about ensuring state compliance with child welfare laws, explaining the limited efficacy of pursuing child welfare reform through litigation, and calling on the executive branch to put forth a more robust program of oversight and enforcement to assure uniform and timely state compliance.
